Aurora Borealis- the magical Northern Lights!!!
We had booked our Northern Lights tour with Lapland Welcome company and we do not regret it. We chose their photography tour as I am also an amateur photographer. Though a bit expensive, the tour is worth every Euro!
The coach picked us up near our apartment at around 9 pm and took us to their city office where we were given a warm suit in their city office to withstand the cold (we looked like clowns but I think its needed). We were also joined by few other visitors. We journeyed for about 40 minutes into the dark wilderness of Lapland and stopped at a jungle lodge. During the journey the guide explained the Northern lights phenomenon and also helped needy passengers with camera settings. Soon after we hiked up about a km on a snow slope in the National Park (they claimed) to reach a vantage point to see the lights.
Lo and behold, even before we could reach the spot, the magic started happening! Stood on almost knee-deep snow and placed my pre-set camera fixed on a tripod and started clicking through my remote button the visual dance of the colourful cosmic lights on the Northern arctic skies for more than an hour!
They had also set up a small tepee where they served wood-fired hot sausages and hot juices- a welcome relief in the middle of probably minus10 deg Celsius.
One of the fellow passengers said that they have been unlucky for the previous three days as they couldn’t see any northern lights. We were so lucky indeed! It was one of the amazing and adventurous experiences in our several years of travels across the world. They dropped us near our apartment at around 2 am and we hit the bed straightaway!
Good narrative Karan ..
